Z-wave is a wireless, mesh network technology that is used to control household devices (such as switches, power outlets and thermostats) and sensors (such as motion detectors, water alarms).

Z-wave allows me to control through software and rules those things that I would have to manually program or hire an electrician to install. From the very simplest "turn on the porch light when motion is sensed", to the convenient "warm up (or cool down) the house as I approach", to the piece of mind "have I closed all of my windows".
